cumbernauld
“nineninetynine” films greenrig road and
uploads it with the caption: “another dumpy
street”. a former resident called “multicoloured”
comments “it didn’t used to be so jakey”.
others film the town centre and complain and
still more film the christmas lights and call the
video “why bother”. the word dingy comes up
a lot.
one stylish video with jaunty jerky unpredictable
camerawork uses jimmy soul’s “if you wanna be happy”
as a theme tune while touring the sodden carbrain
underpasses and then subtly speeds up the pace of
shoppers’s gaits as they trundle past store fronts and
up escalators.
the camera then moves forward and a load of
shoppers are kind of swept into its path and the
video cuts to show children playing.
the carbrain boyz are a gang of 13/ 14/ 15 year olds
who make videos of themselves downing a buckfast
in one swallow and then dancing merrily and sweet.
a very daring cumbernauld high school student is filmed
de-panting his teacher at the blackboard, who then chases
after him enraged, as they move off camera.
the bryce family have uploaded a family video
from 1963 playing in thick white greenfaulds snow, using
it to build a fort or a castle or something. maybe a
town centre.
